Sarayu (Ghaghra) River   The Sarayu (also Sarju ; Dev. सरयु saráyu- f., later Dev. सरयू sarayÅ«-) is a river that flows through the Indian states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh . This river is of ancient significance, finding mentions in the Vedas and the Ramayana . The Sarayu forms at the confluence of the Karnali (or Ghaghara ) and Mahakali (or Sharda ) in Bahraich District. The Mahakali or Sharda forms the Indian-Nepalese border. Ayodhya is situated on the banks of river Sarayu. On Ram Navami , the festival that celebrates the birthday of Lord Rama, thousands of people take a dip in the Sarayu River at Ayodhya. Origin : The Sarayu rises at Sarmul (or Sarmool) , which is located in the extreme north of the district Bageshwar of Uttarakhand on the southern slope of a ridge of the Nanda Kot. Shiv Baba Dham

Shiv Baba Dham - Akbarpur A popular pilgrimage site is the  Hindu temple  of Shiv Baba. It is situated 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from the city, on Faizabad Road, and 50 kilometres (31 mi) from the holy city of  Ayodhya . A fair is held here every Monday and Friday. Education

Education The recent establishment of various local colleges has improved the availability of higher education. The  Ramabai Government Women Post Graduate College , Akbarpur, was established in 1997 to provide opportunities in various disciplines to rural, as well as urban, students. Mahamaya Rajkiya Allopathical Medical College BNKBPG College is a privately managed and government-aided co-educational degree college that offers several programs. Many government secondary schools (Junior high schools and  Rajkiya intermediate colleges ) have been opened in town to provide educational opportunities.  St. John's School  founded in 1972 ,  is a   CBSE -accredited  English medium  school in  Akbarpur . It is one of the oldest schools of the district and will  celebrate it's 50 years i.e.,  Golden Jubilee in 2023. St. Peter's Inter College is an  ICSE-accredited English medium inter college founded in 1984  and it celebrated 25 years of existence in 2009.

Geography

Geography Akbarpur, is situated on the banks of the  Tamsa River  (also known as the  Tons River ). The Tamasa River divides the city of Ambedkarnagar into two parts, Akbarpur and Shahzadpur, with the latter being the commercial centre of the city. History of Akbarpur

History According to the  Ramayana , Akbarpur is where  King Dashratha  shot  Shravan Kumar , at the place called Shravan kshetra. The ashram of the  Sage Shringi Rishi  was situated here. According to the  Ramayana , Lord Rama's son Kusha rules Shravasti. The Rajbhar King rules its eastern part. In the  Ramayana  Lord Rama battled with many Rajbhar Kings.

INTRODUCTION Akbarpur is a city and a municipal board in, and the administrative headquarters of, Ambedkar Nagar district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is the administrative headquarters of Ambedkar Nagar District. Akbarpur is also the birth place of Ram Manohar Lohia (1910-1967) who was a renowned Indian freedom fighter and a socialist political leader. This district was created on September 29, 1995 and was named in the memory of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who worked for the upliftment of the deprived classes, women and other weaker sections of the Society.
